========= What is the outlook for coal gasification in China? What are the bottleneck constraints? =========
The prospects for coal gasification in China currently lie in two relatively advanced methods: pressurized fluidized bed with dry pulverized coal and coal water slurry. The pressurized fluidized bed using pulverized coal was first introduced by Shell, but many aspects of it are still not mature; the continuous operation time is short, and the equipment and spare parts are expensive. The current space furnace also makes use of the pressurized fluidized bed technology for coal, and it represents domestic intellectual property. It has been improved upon compared to Shell’s version, making it more suitable for coal chemical applications, while Shell’s version is better suited for power generation. A representative example of water-coal slurry gasification is Texaco’s technology from the United States, which is also quite mature. The bottleneck for pressurized fluidized bed systems using dry coal powder is the technology for transporting and metering the coal powder. The bottleneck for Texaco is the slurry-forming property of coal, which has significant limitations in terms of its adaptability to different types of coal.
