The difference between stages and rows of compressors

I’ve been confusing the stages and rows of compressors; I hope you can provide a detailed explanation :)
In my opinion, for piston compressors, the number of stages should be determined based on the requirements of your process, while the number of cylinders should correspond to the number of columns
The columns should be classified according to the piston rod of the piston compressor, right?
Reply 1# mos_168: You are referring to a reciprocating compressor, right! Stage: This is related to your process parameters; for example, if the outlet pressure is 8 MPa, then 4 stages are likely required. Column: This refers to either one column or two columns; the columns mean that the process gases at both ends of the chassis do not mix with each other, being two relatively independent systems. Also, from Level 1 Export, it goes to Level 2, then Level 3, and then Level 4; Column 2 won’t do that, and Column 1 won’t go to Column 2! Relatively independent!

Actually, this is quite easy to determine: the number of cylinders determines the number of columns, while the number of compression stages is determined by the compression process – there are as many compression stages as there are compression stages in the compressor.
