Are there any standards for selecting safety valves and flame arrestors? I’m referring to quantitative standards; for example, if the design pressure of the distillation tank is 2 MPa and the reaction pressure is 1.5 MPa, are such standards necessary in that case? And is it necessary to use a reaction temperature of 0.8 MPa, or 0.4 MPa as well? Or what? The same goes for flame arresters – is it necessary to install one once the amount of flammable material in the reactor exceeds a certain level? Should a flame arrester be installed whenever flammable materials are involved? I hope those who are more familiar with this can consider it comprehensively; of course, the biggest limiting factor is cost!

A safety valve must be installed on a heat transfer oil furnace; it is generally placed at the outlet of the furnace, and the discharge port of the safety valve should be connected to a low-level oil tank via piping. This is something that inspection agencies pay close attention to during inspections. If the steam generator and the steam drum are close to each other, it is possible to install only one safety valve, and this will generally meet the safety requirements. A distillation kettle does not necessarily need to be equipped with a safety valve, but it is advisable to have a pressure relief valve. If the reaction in the reactor is highly exothermic and the materials used have a low boiling point, a safety valve is necessary to prevent accidents. It is not very practical for companies to install flame arresters whenever flammable materials are involved; they are generally installed on devices or storage tanks that contain flammable, explosive gases or flammable, volatile liquids.
