Our factory uses atmospheric-pressure ammonia storage tanks; the level gauges need to be sealed to prevent ammonia from evaporating. What type should be used?

Liquid ammonia at atmospheric pressure – is that a low temperature? Around -30 degrees. It is recommended to use a servo level gauge with a ball valve at the top. The servo level gauge has an IP65 protection rating, which should meet the sealing requirements!

Liquid ammonia is a highly dangerous chemical substance, and the proper functioning of a level gauge is an essential safety device to ensure the safe operation of the storage tank. The level gauge originally designed for one factory was of the steel belt float type; its advantages include accurate indication and low error rates. The downside is that the steel strip gets stuck easily, causing the level gauge to fail. Similar accidents have occurred on multiple occasions in actual use, resulting in the storage tanks being unable to function properly. Since the storage tank is a pressure vessel, it was quite difficult to inspect the level gauge; therefore, a radar level gauge was used instead. However, due to large errors, its use had to be abandoned. Later, with the cooperation and suggestions of the relevant parties, a differential pressure level gauge was adopted. It has been in use for over a decade now, and it basically meets the needs of production. The disadvantage of this type of level gauge is that the negative pressure tap is too long; in winter, liquid ammonia condenses inside the tube, resulting in incorrect readings. It is necessary to install a liquid removal tank before the differential pressure gauge to remove liquid during winter, thereby ensuring the proper operation of the level gauge in cold weather. 2. An ammonia storage facility at a factory that has been in use for over 10 years needs to be relocated due to urban planning requirements. There are 2 custom-made level gauges on the ammonia tank; after the relocation, the owner continued to use the original custom-made level gauges. From conversations with the owner, it was learned that these level gauges have never malfunctioned over the past 10 years and are extremely accurate.
