I’m new to the oil refining field and would like to know what are the differences in properties and composition between the base oil used in secondary line lubricants and the catalytic slurry The more detailed, the better!
The density of the catalytic slurry is high: 972 kg/m³, with a viscosity of 8 mm2/s and a carbon residue of 2.13%. The density of the secondary base oil is 852 kg/m³, its viscosity is 16 mm2/s, and its carbon residue is 0.01% (as it has been refined). There are even greater differences in other parameters such as color； Furthermore, in terms of composition, the oil slurry contains over 20% aromatics, while the base oil is present in relatively small amounts.
Second-tier lubricant base oils are subject to strict requirements regarding viscosity, boiling range, and flash point; however, the specific values of these parameters vary depending on the equipment used； When used as a catalytic slurry, the requirements regarding viscosity and boiling range are not too strict; however, there are quite high demands on the levels of residue and heavy metals, as high levels of heavy metals can affect the activity of the catalytic cracking catalysts.
