Now, a float level gauge is to be used to measure the oil-water separation interface, with the density of water being 986.5 and that of oil being 867.7. I was wondering, is such a design easy to test and stable? Are there any other types of level gauges that would be better for this purpose?
Could we think in a different way? I’m not sure if it will work (please point out any mistakes if there are any). If the tank is conductive, can’t a capacitive level gauge be used to detect the oil-water interface?
The density difference is too small; it’s likely not feasible. It’s necessary to consult the manufacturer for details. Guided wave radar can be used (it’s better than magnetostrictive sensors, and it’s required that the dielectric constant of oil and water be greater than 10). Additionally, differential pressure transmitters can also be employed within an appropriate range.
A density difference of more than 100 allows for measurement (the technical requirements vary among different manufacturers); however, magnetic flip plates are not the most ideal choice. It is recommended to use a float level gauge, with a torsion tube-type float possibly providing more stable measurement results. In our factory, we mainly use buoys and guided-wave radars for boundary measurement; high-precision double-flange devices are also an option.
Using a floating ball to make measurements doesn’t seem to work; the difference in density is too small. Do you mind choosing a float? Their two measurement principles are different. The oil-water interface levels in our unit are basically measured using buoys.
Magnetostrictive level gauges are very useful. Our company uses K-tek.
