I’m facing a problem now: on a sewage collection cylinder with a diameter of 900, it is necessary to create an oblong hole. The design pressure is not high, at 0.06 MPa, and the medium involved is natural gas. I’m seeking expert advice on how to calculate the reinforcement required for this oblong hole!
It is best to keep the short axis parallel to the axis of the cylinder, and then make reinforcement openings using the short axis as a diameter.
This isn’t that difficult either, just a personal suggestion! For reinforcing an oblong hole, you can use the long axis as the diameter of the opening and then carry out the reinforcement – that’s all there is to it. Since the pressure applied isn’t high, there should be no problems! !
I’m not quite sure how to calculate it, but aren’t the views of those two people a bit contradictory?

Both the 2nd and 3rd floors are correct. For oblong holes, it is best for the short axis to be parallel to the axis of the cylinder, and it should be ensured that the ratio of the long axis to the short axis does not exceed 2. Calculations should be done using the short axis as the diameter; if the direction of the hole is not known for now, the long axis can be used for calculation, which is also safe
