Valve numbering in flowcharts

This post was last edited by zero229 on 2011-7-21 at 16:06. For those who are just starting out, who can provide an authoritative explanation regarding the labeling of valves in flow diagrams? FV stands for flow control valve, LV for level control valve, and PV for pressure control valve – there’s no issue with these. However, explanations for terms like XV vary; there are also terms such as solenoid valve, shut-off valve, on/off valve, quick-open/quick-close valve, etc. And then there are HV and KV
FV: Flow control valve; LV: Level control valve; PV: Pressure control valve; XV: Valve used for manual/automatic shutdown, may also be a plug valve; HV: Manual valve; KV: Flow coefficient. This is my personal understanding; due to my limited expertise, I appreciate any guidance from others

I just asked someone from our instrumentation department, and the answer is as follows: FV – flow control valve; LV – level control valve; PV – pressure control valve; XV – emergency shut-off valve; HV – manually controlled valve. KV has not been seen before; it’s likely also a remotely controlled valve. However, these should be explained in the PID legend
