In the process of the Second Chemical Plant, what is the purpose of spraying methanol while cooling the raw gas with ammonia at 0°C?
Spraying methanol serves two purposes: one is to prevent freezing, which could cause blockages in pipes and equipment； Secondly, it can remove some of the moisture from the feed gas, preventing too high moisture levels in the methanol-rich stream.
In the process we have designed, methanol is sprayed into two heat exchangers. You are referring to the function of spraying methanol into the second heat exchanger; we spray methanol before the temperature drops below 0°C, in order to prevent blockage of W002
