Is it better to use ceramic or metal packing in wastewater extraction towers?

In the wastewater extraction tower, toluene is used to extract the small amount of organic substances present in the wastewater. A packed tower is employed for counter-current extraction: toluene enters the tower from the bottom, acting as the dispersed phase, while the wastewater enters from the top, serving as the continuous phase. Regarding the wettability of the packing surface, and thus the extraction efficiency, is it better to use ceramic material for the packing? Is it better to use stainless steel? Please give me some advice, thank you!
Our factory uses stainless steel corrugated packing, which offers higher efficiency than before; we used ceramic packing previously, and it has been replaced. Although we don’t use wastewater extraction, I’m not sure if it will be useful to you. We are involved with toluene
