Backhoe mechanism: The backhoe mechanism is the main working device of small and medium-sized hydraulic excavators. Currently, the bucket capacities widely used are below 1.6 m³. The composition and digging principle of the backhoe mechanism are similar to those of a fronthoe; the main difference lies in the opposite direction of digging, which in turn results in changes in the operating direction of the various cylinders. The difference lies in the bucket section; since the resistance encountered during loading is less than that during digging, the capacity of the loading bucket can be increased, and its shape is more suitable for the requirements of loading operations. When the digging and loading device is in operation, the body remains stationary; it is the working components – the boom and bucket – that work together to scoop up the material, and the rotation mechanism is used to transport the material to the unloading location. This is different from ordinary wheel or track front-end loaders, which use the thrust generated as the machine moves forward to push the bucket into the material, and rely on the forward and backward movement of the entire machine to transport the material to the discharge location. Therefore, under certain conditions, the digging and loading device has a higher operational efficiency than a front-end loader, and it can also reduce wear on the traveling mechanism. The bucket capacity and operating range of excavator loaders are constrained by the machine’s stability and ground adhesion. Although their bucket capacity is smaller compared to front-end loaders of the same weight class, excavator loaders possess greater digging power. The ability to perform horizontal digging further enhances their functionality, and their operating range far exceeds that of front-end loaders; as a result, they are widely used in construction projects and mining operations.
