This post was last edited by qilupzh on 2011-7-25 22:28. A Schaeffler diagram is a diagram of weld microstructure, showing the relationship between chemical composition and weld structure. The chemical composition of the weld metal is determined based on the chemical compositions of the base material and the filler metal, as well as the dilution ratio. The equivalent values of Cr and Ni are calculated using appropriate formulas, and thereby the microstructure of the weld metal can be determined from the graph. This diagram not only facilitates the determination of the as-welded microstructure for a given alloy composition, but it also allows, conversely, determining the corresponding chromium-nickel equivalent based on the requirements of the weld microstructure; this information can then be used to select the filler metal or adjust the weld composition.
