I recently came into contact with a horizontal tank used in the Xinjiang region, where the ambient temperature is as low as minus 35 degrees. The tank is equipped with heating coils; the operating temperature is 60 degrees, while the design temperature is 80 degrees. It also has insulation on the outside. I’m currently struggling with deciding on the material for the tank. According to the standards, only containers with a design temperature of minus 20 degrees or lower are considered cryogenic pressure vessels, and thus require the use of cryogenic steel. I’m posting this to invite everyone to discuss the following: 1. Should low-temperature steel be used for the material of this tank body? 2. If the design temperature is 80 degrees and there is insulation on the outside, Q345R can be used for the tank body; then what about the material for the saddle? It’s exposed out there.
According to the standards, only containers with a design temperature of minus 20 degrees or lower are considered cryogenic pressure vessels, and thus require the use of cryogenic steel. According to the specified design parameters, Q345R should be used for the tank body material, Q345R for the saddle pad, and Q235B for other materials of the saddle.
Since the device you mentioned is placed outdoors, I’m not sure if the pressure is medium pressure . In the northern regions, winter lasts at most half a year, and extreme weather conditions also last only about half a month; with external insulation and internal heating in place, it is certainly possible to use Q345R for the tank body, and the saddles can be made of the same material since they are not used in large quantities. If the customer has no issue with the cost, you can also use Q345D material.
1. What is the operating pressure of this device? It is necessary to determine whether it falls under low-temperature and low-stress operating conditions. 2. Is the design temperature 80 degrees or -35 to 80 degrees? 3. In that case, it’s no problem to use Q345 for the supports. 4 If it is a low-temperature vessel, 16MnDR can be used
