Compressed air drying process

May I ask everyone, why in some systems does the compressed air go directly to the air storage tank and then to the dryer before reaching the user, while in other systems it goes to the dryer first and then to the air storage tank before reaching the user? What are the advantages of each of these two methods? Can the two be swapped?
For the end user, there is no difference between the two; it is dry air in either case. But it’s different for storage units; un dried air causes significant corrosion to the inner walls of the containers during storage...
