Hello everyone, I’m a newcomer to chromatography. I’ve been learning two data processing methods: external standard method and normalization, but I’m finding it a bit difficult due to the E-Works software. I’ve already mastered the internal standard method; I would be grateful if those who have relevant experience could offer some guidance... We are using a VARIAN cp3800 GC.
The external standard method involves preparing solutions of different concentrations using standard solutions, injecting them separately, and creating a calibration curve based on the peak areas. The unknown sample is then processed in the same way, injected, and its concentration is determined by integrating the peak area values on the calibration curve. I’m learning about this currently. Thank you. If I want to measure the concentrations of two substances, A and B, in a sample – along with a small amount of impurities that I can ignore – does that mean the external standard method involves first preparing solutions of the pure substances A and B at different concentrations, injecting them, and then creating curves based on mass ratios and area ratios? After analyzing the sample by chromatography, do I determine the mass ratio by referring to those curves using the area ratios?
