Our reactor vent pipes are all connected to the same main exhaust gas absorption pipe. Is it safer to install a flame arrestor on each reactor vent pipe? What type of flame arrestor would be suitable?
Each vent pipe of the reactor should be equipped with a flame arrestor. Because if a fire breaks out in another reactor, there is a possibility that the open flame could travel back through the air defense ducts and ignite other reactors as well. Safety issues in chemical production must not be ignored! As for what kind of group or device is more effective, I cannot provide any relevant information. However, you can consult the manufacturer of the blocker. They will likely be able to give you some good advice.

Reply to 1# liusan7409: It mainly depends on the characteristics of the hazardous materials in the reactor – whether a flame arrester is needed. I’ve not encountered a situation where a flame arrester is added for reactor venting, but flame arresters are indeed installed on the top of storage tanks. You can look up books related to pressure vessel design.
Since it is a vent pipe, there should be no possibility of flammable gases and air flowing back, and thus no risk of flashback. Then why is a flame arrester needed?

Previously, no vent pipes were used, but now many factories do use them. I also consulted several manufacturers that produce flame arrestors, and they said it is strictly required to be added. It was my first time using this thing, so I wasn’t sure what to expect.
How about using a water seal? Will installing a flame arrester affect the efficiency of your venting?
If flammable gases are released, a flame arrester must be installed, as the fast flow rate of the gas generates static electricity, increasing the risk of flash explosions.
Our company doesn’t need to add anything; the vent lines are connected to the scrubber tower. However, each reaction vessel’s vent line is equipped with a check valve. Fire arrestors don’t seem necessary; I’m not sure whether the original poster is referring to process vent or process release.
Please refer to the installation design requirements for flame arrestors; not all vent pipes of reaction vessels require flame arrestors, as this is determined by the ignition point and flash point temperatures of the gas.
