Dear sea friends: Regarding private enterprises, considering all factors, which is better between the two approaches – vacuum distillation + sulfuric acid + clay purification, or vacuum distillation + furfural extraction + clay purification?
The main issue is environmental protection. Although the pickling-alkali earth refining process can be efficient, environmental regulations prevent its use; the acid residues cannot be disposed of properly. Either you have to find a place where such disposal is not allowed, or you should consider using furfural refining instead, as it is a slightly better option.
Reply to 2#: I want to take vitamins. How is acid residue generally handled these days? We also want to do more in the area of circular economy; even when acids are used, they still need to be treated. Personally, I lean towards furfural, but nothing has been decided yet.
I don’t know how to recycle the acid sludge either. We have a process for washing base oil here, but we’re unable to deal with the acid sludge. We sell the clay sludge at 500 yuan per ton, but there’s a condition: those who buy the clay sludge must also take away the acid sludge with them. In other words, when buying the clay sludge, one has to take the acid sludge along as well, and it’s mandatory. It is said that they take the acid residues, boil them in water to separate the oil from them, and then use those acid residues to produce fake asphalt. However, the market for fake asphalt is not very good at the moment; sometimes the acid residues are also mixed into residue oil and sold as such.

The recovery and purification of furfural is a minor issue; it will result in a slight increase in costs
