Inlet position of the shell side of the BKU type heat exchanger

What are the typical requirements for the inlet location on the shell side of a BKU-type heat exchanger? What is the purpose of placing the inlet at 1/2D rather than at the bottom?
I think the inlet can be at the bottom or in the middle, as long as it is below the liquid level. Most of the BKUs I’ve seen are of poor quality.
Increase the pipe distribution area, as an anti-impact plate is required at the liquid ammonia inlet, and placing it at the bottom is not effective
