The operating temperature of the bearings in the Wu’an heat transfer fluid circulation pumps used by our company is around 75 degrees, while the operating temperature of the bearings in the other pumps is around 61 degrees. The management considered this abnormal and requested that the temperature be reduced. The bearings are two thrust bearings arranged back to back; the shaft diameter is 75 MM. The clearance between the bearings is adjusted by tightening or loosening the round nuts, with a pitch of 2 MM. There are 8 positioning holes on each round nut, which means that each adjustment amounts to 25 threads. The adjustment was carried out twice: tightening by 25 threads did not change the temperature, and loosening by 25 threads also had no effect. I’d like the experts to help me figure this out: should it be tightened or loosened?
If it can be stabilized at 75 degrees, that’s acceptable; it also indicates that the bearing clearance is not small. There is no need to increase the clearance, as doing so will instead lead to poor operating conditions for the bearing and an increase in temperature. The cause of the high temperature should be sought in other aspects, such as axial force, alignment, and the straightness of the shaft. Personal opinions are for reference only.
