According to foreign reports and domestic experience: if the API of the raw material is less than 7 and the residue/asphaltene content of the raw material is less than 1.4–1.6, pellet coking will occur; pellet coking does not occur when the API is greater than 10 and the residue/asphaltene content is greater than 2.0. In addition, factors such as the metal content in the raw material, operating temperature, recycle ratio, and gas velocity in the empty tower also have an impact on the occurrence of pellet coking. Therefore, during design and production, efforts should be made to avoid the formation of pellet coke in order to ensure the long-term safe operation of the device.
