Many of the centrifugal pumps in the new unit are equipped with seal cooling water. The temperature of the medium ranges from 30 degrees to 75 degrees. It’s understandable to use cooling water when the temperature is above 70 degrees, but is it really necessary to use it even at 30 degrees?
Hot oil pumps are generally supplied with machine cooling water to prevent damage to the mechanical seal
I think that if it’s just to cool the mechanical seal, there’s no need to use cooling water at 30 degrees. If it is to prevent seal wear, there is no need to consider temperature. Another factor is whether cooling water is used or not; it’s not sufficient to consider only the temperature of the medium, as friction within the mechanical seal also generates heat, resulting in the temperature of the sealing surface being higher than that of the medium.
Hot oil pumps generally use diaphragm-type mechanical seals; cooling is less important – as long as the temperature remains within the allowable range, the seal’s main function is to flush the surfaces of the frictioning parts

It also depends on what type of mechanical seal it is. The medium temperature for single-face seals isn’t specified; however, it must be specified for double-face seals
I’ve read quite a few answers regarding cooling water and shaft seal water; many of the responses give different phrasings but convey the same meaning. It seems necessary to organize and summarize them
