I used a solid adhesive based on paper tube glue, and noticed that it contained many transparent crystalline substances (the crystals resembled monosodium glutamate in appearance). These substances do not deliquesce in air; they are acidic when dissolved in water, and in alkaline solutions they form flocculent masses that are evenly dispersed within the solution.
