The heat transfer rate divided by the latent heat gives the amount of condensation, and this is a theoretical value. In practice, factors such as heat transfer efficiency and heat loss must also be taken into account. To determine the latent heat, it is necessary to know the pressure of the steam (or the temperature to which the medium needs to be heated), and based on this, the diameter of the steam pipes can be calculated – rather than determining the pipe diameter first and then figuring out the amount of condensation.
