Since some low-concentration waste hydrochloric acid is generated during production and no one wants to purchase it, it has to be neutralized. Now it is intended to be used as water for the VCM washing tower, but the waste hydrochloric acid contains 60–80 PPM of calcium and magnesium ions as well as a small amount of free chlorine. I’m not sure what effect the calcium and magnesium ions will have on the quality of the monomer Especially regarding the free chlorine it contains, I hope some friends can help give some advice, or if anyone has experience in this area, they could share their insights.
It should work. That’s how it works for us: the acid with a low concentration in the closed-loop tank is divided into two streams; one of these streams goes to the washing tower and then returns to the circulation tank. After coming out of the defoaming tower on the other route, hydrochloric acid at around 25° can be sold directly; if one wishes to increase the concentration of the hydrochloric acid to around that level, some mixed and dehydrated condensed acid can be added to the finished acid tank. The water level in the circulation tank is maintained by adding fresh water. As for the spent hydrochloric acid, which contains 60-80PPM of calcium and magnesium ions as well as a small amount of free chlorine, it is not clear what effect the calcium and magnesium ions have on the quality of the monomer Especially, the free chlorine present poses no problem, as there is an alkali scrubber later on; at most, more time is required for flushing when replacing the alkali scrubber.
