The products we currently manufacture are produced through chlorination using an excess of chlorine gas, and this excess chlorine gas is neutralized with sodium hydroxide, resulting in alkaline wastewater (without the use of a process that generates sodium hypochlorite), which causes significant waste. We now plan to use a chlorine recovery unit to recycle excess chlorine, but the chlorination reactions take place in multiple reactors, and the process is unstable (it’s an intermittent process with start-stop operations during reaction), whereas the recovery unit operates continuously. In the case of an addition reaction, no hydrogen chloride is produced, and it can be directly absorbed in two stages using liquid alkali to form sodium hypochlorite. Substitution reaction, with three-stage water absorption followed by two-stage liquid alkali absorption.
Who has mature processes for chlorine recovery? We are involved in many chlorine chlorination reactions that produce hydrogen chloride as well as unreacted chlorine; we simply want to separate hydrogen chloride from chlorine so that hydrogen chloride can be processed, while the recovered chlorine can be reused.
