The temperature at the top of the distillation tower is 165°C; the top condenser is cooled using circulating water, and the temperature at the material outlet is 160°C. Is this design reasonable? Does the tower top condenser tend to scale? Newbie, please give some advice!
It tends to scale easily; an indirect heat exchange method can be used by adding a refined water circulation system. The heat is carried away by the refined water, and then cooled using circulating water. This approach is rather complicated and increases costs.
Reply to 2# su*ubin: The cooling medium at the top of the tower is low-pressure steam condensate, which generates low- and low-pressure steam as a by-product. It should be fine, I guess.
A preheater can be added to use the vapor at the top of the tower to heat the material that needs to be heated, thereby enabling efficient utilization of heat.
Reply to 4# fjmzw: It’s not possible; we need to take into account the vapor yield at the top of the tower!
Reply to 5# zeng*anqun007: Please explain in detail
With a tower top temperature of 165°C, heat coupling can be considered.
Reply to 7# robinbird: What aspects need to be considered when performing thermal coupling?
Reply to 6# yhsm2009: If used to heat other materials, can the outlet temperature be maintained at 160 degrees?
If the temperature is too low, the tower pressure should not be achieved. Adding a heat exchanger bypass should work pretty well. Thank you. The top heat exchanger is now cooled by circulating water. I just feel like it’s a waste, so I came here to ask.
Reply to 1# yhsm2009: Install a thermometer at the inlet of the cooling system, and another one at the outlet, to see what the temperature difference is Also, what is the diameter of the cooling water pipe? If the temperature difference is not large and the pipe diameter is large, scaling will not occur either. If scaling is to occur, the outlet temperature must be at least 60 degrees Celsius. If you are still worried, you can install two heat exchangers, one as a backup and the other in use, which will help remove scale.
