It is safer to install a flame arrester
It’s necessary; considering safety aspects, and besides, it doesn’t cost much anyway
It should be installed; it’s beneficial for safe production
Reply to 2# Adu: At present, safety in chlor-alkali production is of the utmost importance, and safety in the hydrogen system is even more critical. Using a water seal combined with a flame arrester for hydrogen venting represents a good design and safety approach. In actual production, under certain circumstances it’s possible for the water seal to lose its water content, which can be dangerous; however, the flame arrester provides a buffer effect. Nevertheless, in real production, the water seal must not lose water content at all – regular inspections are necessary, or there should be a means to add water, with the water flowing continuously.
Reply to 1# cjxzyp1215: Our company has three sets of ion membrane electrolyzers, and each hydrogen exhaust system is equipped with a flame arrester. It is a device that must be installed; the specific requirement is that the top of the chimney should be 1–1.5 meters above the factory building.
It was clearly stated upstairs that it should be installed as required
A water seal is used to maintain pressure, while a flame arrester is used to prevent fires. They have different uses
No need. . Our company has already started working on a project, namely the liquid seal tank; the key is to ensure that the design of this liquid seal tank is reasonable

Products such as alkalis, chlorine, and acids are widely used in industries such as construction materials, chemicals, metallurgy, papermaking, textiles, and petroleum, and it holds a very important foundational role within the overall industrial system. The products involved in the chlor-alkali industry include more than 200 types of organic and inorganic chemical products, such as caustic soda, polyvinyl chloride, hydrochloric acid, liquid chlorine, calcium chloride, barium chloride, ferric chloride, bleaching agents, methyl chlorides, epoxides, chlorinated solvents, chlorinated paraffins, sodium metal, sodium chlorate, sodium perchlorate, potassium chlorate, potassium perchlorate, straight-chain hydrocarbons, and aromatic chloride compounds. The chlor-alkali industry uses industrial salt (sodium chloride) as a raw material, and electrolyzes the industrial salt water to produce sodium hydroxide, hydrochloric acid, chlorine gas, and hydrogen gas. Devices for producing caustic soda by electrolysis, as well as sodium chlorate production plants, generate large amounts of hydrogen-containing off-gases during the electrolysis process. If the hydrogen content in sodium chlorate exhaust gases is over 95%, these gases also contain oxygen, chlorine, water vapor, etc. The detailed composition is as follows: Exhaust gas name, Composition (V%), Notes – H2, O2, Cl2; O2 content can reach 5%–7%, and water vapor is also present. Chlor-alkali salt exhaust gases: ~96.5%, ~3.5%, ≤65 mg/Nm3. It can be seen that industries that produce sodium hydroxide and sodium chlorate through electrolysis generate large amounts of hydrogen-containing exhaust gases. 2. Introduction to the purification process for sodium chlorate exhaust gas: Based on the composition of the sodium chlorate exhaust gas, the main impurity components in it are oxygen and chlorine gas. In terms of environmental protection, for sodium chlorate exhaust gas, a Cl2 level of ≤65 mg/Nm3 is sufficient to allow direct emission. However, as a chemical raw material gas, the Cl2 level in the exhaust gases is required to be ≤1 ppm or even lower. Its purification process is as follows: The hydrogen-containing exhaust gas coming from the electrolysis (sodium hydroxide, sodium chlorate) unit is first subjected to multi-stage alkaline washing for rough dechlorination, in order to remove the majority of the chlorine gas present in the exhaust gas. Then, precision dechlorination is carried out to remove the residual chlorine from the exhaust gas. Finally, a deoxygenation process is carried out to remove oxygen from the exhaust gas, ensuring the safety of transporting the purified hydrogen. Deoxygenated hydrogen can be used directly as industrial hydrogen. 3. Schematic diagram of the sodium chlorate exhaust gas purification process 4. Product specifications: Cl2 content in hydrogen ≤ 1 ppm (design can be carried out according to the owner’s requirements). 5. Scope of Services: Chengdu Tiancheng Carbon-1 Chemical Co., Ltd. can provide technology transfer, engineering design, partial hardware supply, or turnkey project management for hydrogen-containing exhaust gas purification systems of various scales, ranging from 100 to 20,000 Nm3/h.
