According to a report from August 22, 2011, the methanol production project in Chongqing, which is a key initiative of the city to develop the natural gas chemical industry, revitalize the economy in the Three Gorges area, and establish it as a national hub for the chemical industry, has seen good progress in all aspects of its work since construction began on December 7, 2009. The project is designed to have an annual production capacity of 850,000 tons. With a total investment of 2.355 billion yuan, this project is the **last set of natural gas-to-methanol plants approved for construction, and it is also the largest such plant in China at present. The installation of machinery is expected to be completed by December this year, after which it will enter the testing phase, with full operation set to begin in March next year.
