The steam nozzle heated by the hot water tank broke and fell off

The bottom of the hot water tank is heated by steam; steam pipes extend into the tank, and a spiral-shaped steam distributor is installed vertically. After running it for a week using water instead of the proper material, it was found that the steam distributors in both hot water tanks had broken. These distributors were supposed to be made of stainless steel – was it due to vibration? What else is the reason? Is it necessary to install this distribution head? Is there any good solution?
It’s not necessary to install it; the effect isn’t very noticeable
