For a 10KV air compressor with a power capacity of 13,000KW, what is the best method of reduced-voltage starting that is both cost-effective and does not cause too much strain on the power grid? Will it be easier to repair and maintain in the future? 1. Stator series resistance 2. Autotransformer step-down 3. Star-delta 4. Soft starter. Does using a soft starter require a higher investment?
Water-resistance soft starter devices feature low cost, reliable operation, minimal impact on the power grid, and simple maintenance.

This method is relatively old, but it is cost-effective. It doesn’t mean it can be eliminated.
Make it a water-resistance type, add an extra contactor to ensure that the water resistor remains uncharged and is not vulnerable to leaks; include a level monitoring system for automatic water top-up at regular intervals.
It seems that nowadays, large compressors of this type are less often equipped with high-voltage soft starters or high-voltage frequency converters!

Using three-phase thyristor voltage regulation for soft starting is a good option: the start-up process is smooth, there is less harmonic content, fewer torque shocks, and it causes less strain on the power grid. Additionally, it has a moderate price and its technology is well-developed.
Using water resistance for soft starting is the most economical and reasonable approach!
