How are the size and location of pipe piers generally determined?
The size and location of the pipe rack piers depend on factors such as the bearing capacity of the ground, the weight of the pipe rack and pipes (with fluid inside and insulated), wind (snow) loads, and many other considerations. There are calculations involved in the process.
It should be the structural engineering department that carries out the calculations
Pipe piers come in different forms; generally, the piping work is commissioned based on the specific piping requirements, including the loads and types of embedments, after which the structural team handles the foundation design.
