What does tan-tan mean when marking height or length?

A (tan-tan) is added when indicating the height or size of a container. So what does tan-tan mean? Which size are you referring to? Thank you
tan – tangent, refers to the point of tangency of a spherical head or an elliptical head.
It should be the distance between the tangents of the two ends; tan means tangent

It means tangent to tangent!
Tan to tan refers to from tangent to tangent, including the height of the straight edges of the head; seam to seam refers to from weld to weld, without including the height of the straight edges of the head.
