Must the lift pipe in the cyclone separator be inserted below the inlet?

In the structure of a cyclone separator, is it necessary for the lift pipe to be inserted below the inlet? Would having an air lift pipe from the cyclone inlet upward affect the separation?
It’s not necessary, right? The key is still the separation efficiency – it needs to reach 99.99%; that’s just my personal opinion!
