Boiler water is the water inside the boiler. Desalinated water is makeup water that has been desalted; it, together with condensed water, constitutes the boiler feed water, which then enters the boiler after deoxygenation and heating (in systems with a heat recovery cycle). Boilers require desalinated water to be replenished because they experience various types of steam and water losses, including: blowdown losses, losses in the heating network (as heat generation results in less condensate returning compared to the amount of steam supplied), internal steam and water losses within the plant (such as leaks in valves and exhaust steam losses), and so on. These losses need to be compensated for with desalinated water.
Desalinated water is water from which various ions have been removed. Boiler water is used in boilers, and to prevent corrosion, certain amounts of phosphate ions and ammonium ions are added to it.
