Our production site is set to be renovated, and we have already signed a construction contract with the contractor. I need advice regarding weld qualification for pipeline installation: 1. Should the weld qualification be provided by us or by the construction company? (The construction company says they have it and that it can cover the materials used on site.) 2. The project prior to the renovation was carried out by another company, and the welding qualification reports were already available. Can the pipeline installation company during the renovation use those welding qualification reports from the original company?
1: Welding procedure qualification to be carried out by the construction unit. 2: Not allowed
Whoever does the construction is responsible for preparing the welding assessment, just as whoever drives a car needs to have a driver’s license.
Conducting a weld evaluation is a necessary step before carrying out welding work; it is a mandatory technical document that guides and regulates the welding process, and of course, it is prepared by the contractor. Different construction companies have varying levels of technical expertise and different understandings of the relevant standards; therefore, the details of the weld qualification reports prepared also differ. The original weld qualification reports can only serve as a reference, not something that can be copied verbatim.
