What is the most obvious sign of scaling in a heat exchanger?
The heat exchange temperature doesn’t meet the standards. :lol
The most obvious sign is that the temperature fails to drop; this can be determined using the DCS system. If scaling occurs inside the pipes, the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet of the fluid flowing through those pipes increases, and this can be seen most clearly on the pressure gauge. On the other hand, if scaling occurs inside the pipe, the flow rate will definitely decrease, but this cannot be determined directly; measurements or calculations are required. That’s all I know; I’m not sure if it’s correct. It would be best for the original poster to use this merely as a reference.
One of the heat exchangers in our factory has developed scaling, and the obvious symptom of this is a change in temperature. By checking the temperature trend over a period of about a month using the DCS, it can be seen that the rate of temperature increase gradually decreases; this issue can be resolved by adding water during maintenance
