48% of the caustic soda pumps (shielded pumps) experience overcurrent, but once the pump chamber is cleaned with warm water, the current returns to normal. After some time, overcurrent occurs again. Why is this? Could it be that the pump shaft has been corroded? ?
First, I’d like to ask if the material of the pump chosen by the original poster is the right one; it seems that this is related to caustic soda. It shouldn’t be a problem with the equipment

Could it be that the pump’s shielding cover has corroded, resulting in caustic soda crystals forming on the rotor and affecting the pump’s normal operation? This is just my guess, as the pump has never been disassembled. I’m asking you to see if this could be the cause. Thank you
I think there’s something similar to scale on the pump’s impeller, because it returns to normal after each cleaning.
It is likely that the high concentration of the alkaline solution, combined with low temperatures, leads to crystallization; the alkali adheres to the pump body, valves, and pipe interiors, causing the pump to experience excessive current flow. Consider reducing the concentration of the alkaline solution, generally to 0.3%.
It’s probably scaling; similar issues have occurred with the high-speed pumps and shielded pumps in our facility. The current returned to normal after the scaling was removed
