Li Ailing, the “village woman leader” who cares about her people My name is Li Ailing; I graduated from Henan University of Finance and Economics in 2002, and I am currently the head of the village committee in Wali Village, Baofeng County, Pingdingshan City. In response to the \"College Student Village Official Program\" launched by the municipal party committee, I came to work in Walixi Village, Baofeng County. When I first started working in the village, the villagers treated me as an outsider. On the third day after arriving in the village, when I went to visit the Xiaolianzhuang natural village, I saw several poor families who had no food or shelter. I immediately raised 26 new quilts and 1,300 jin of flour to help 38 poor villagers. When Li Rang had the old lady and her husband receive the supplies I brought, she took me by the hand and said, “My child, you’re truly my own daughter!” ”I also said emotionally, \"Mom, I will come to see you often from now on.\" ” Wa Li is a traditional agricultural village, but its soil is poor; in years of severe drought, many farmers end up with no harvest at all. To address the issue of irrigation water, I sought help from the relevant authorities. Eventually, the officials were moved by my determination and approved 80,000 yuan from the water resources reserve to help our village dig three wells that are 100 meters deep. On the day of completion, the villagers were as happy as if it were New Year’s Day.
100 days after I arrived in the village, the villagers expressed their trust and support for me through their votes, and I was elected as the new head of the village committee with 92% of the votes. I heard that the **\"Tongda Project\" is being implemented, with funds allocated for building rural roads; therefore, I decided to apply for this project in order to improve the appearance of our village. In November 2005, I went to Beijing with the report and a sickly body to get the project approved. Thanks to my efforts, the project was finally approved, and 200,000 yuan was allocated to our village. With this money, we built 2 kilometers of concrete roads, paved 6 main streets in the village, and improved the village’s environment.
The wells in the village are polluted, causing the villagers to suffer from various diseases. To ensure that the villagers have access to safe water, I decided to apply for the provincial safe drinking water program. One day last July, I was forced to take my son to Zhengzhou to submit the contaminated water samples for retesting at the relevant authorities. Unfortunately, we got stuck on the national highway due to heavy fog; for 29 hours straight, we had nothing to eat or drink, so I had no choice but to give the water samples to my child to drink. That night, I didn’t close my eyes at all. After approval, the province allocated 300,000 yuan to dig deep wells, enabling everyone in the village to have access to safe drinking water.
In the second half of 2005, the village began to plan the establishment of a livestock breeding park. Through efforts, by the end of last year, a total of 50 farmers had settled in the park, with a net income of nearly 1.7 million yuan. After thorough investigation and evaluation, an enterprise in Henan decided to build a dairy cow farming facility in Wali Village, with an investment of over 60 million yuan.
Today, Wa Li Village has become a key model village for the construction of socialist new rural areas in Pingdingshan City. Seeing the villagers, who saw hope, express their trust and gratitude to me in their own unique way, as well as the high honors given to me by the organization, was truly meaningful. I have been honored with titles such as “Pao Feng County Women’s Leader in Using Science and Technology for Prosperity,” “Model Worker of Pingdingshan City,” and “New Long March Pioneering Worker of Henan Province.” Looking back on my two years as a village official, what I want to say most is: farmers are truly lovely, and there is a vast stage for entrepreneurship in rural areas. I am willing to devote myself to the broader world and contribute my youth to the construction of a new socialist countryside.
