A shut-off valve should be installed at the outlet at the bottom of the methanol storage tank. It’s possible that the valve might need to be removed; in that case, the valve connected to the tank should remain in place. However, since there is methanol in the tank, there is a risk that the nuts and bolts holding the valve in place may not be able to be removed. To address this, one could use a saw to cut through the bolts and nuts, but this process generates heat and iron shavings, and internal leakage of the valve could pose a danger. What measures can be taken to ensure safety? Please teach me.
Reply to 1# whs1964310: There is a valve ahead of you, so ensure it is shut off; disconnect the pipeline at the flange, thereby separating the section of pipe where welding will take place. You’re just using a hacksaw to cut the bolts in order to remove the valve; it’s actually no big deal and won’t cause any safety hazards. Since there is internal leakage in this valve, it’s better to wait until all the methanol in the large tank is used up before replacing the valve and installing a dual-valve system; this will make it easier to replace the valve next time.
Prepare four bolts of the same specifications; after cutting one with a hacksaw, replace it with a new bolt, and repeat the process. Once all the bolts have been replaced with new ones, the valve can be removed.
