Large-diameter flanges in American standard flanges are divided into Series A/B – what are the principles for making the selection? Why is the gap so large?
I have the same question. Is it a distinction between equipment and pipelines? Is there anyone who is familiar with foreign standards?
Series a is the large-size series, while series b is the compact size series; generally, series b is sufficient, unless there are special requirements specified in the contract. Series b allows for material savings
Which series is thicker? We have chosen 26\" 150lb flanges; should we go with Series A or Series B? Thank you!
We work in design; we basically use type B, and rarely use type A. I suggest you use type B as well
When designing the loop flange in accordance with flange standards, Type A flange should be selected. Otherwise, the weld ring overlaps the flange too little.
Since the A series is a large-size series, the flange of type A is naturally thicker
For detailed specifications, refer to ASME B16.47-2011, Section 1.2 Flange Series. This standard specifies two series of flange dimensions. Series A defines the dimensions for flanges intended for general use, while Series B specifies the dimensions for compact flanges, which in most cases have smaller bolt circle diameters compared to those of Series A flanges. These two series of flanges are generally not interchangeable. Users should be aware that some flanged valves, equipment fastened between flanges, and flanged equipment may be compatible only with one of these series of flanges. The B-series flanges save material, and they are generally the choice for such applications.
