The catalyst resistance is 4.5 kp; it’s time to start maintenance work. I would like to ask everyone for advice on the precautions to take as well as what size of sieve should be used. Thank you
There’s no need to sieve at 4.5 KPa; it can go up to 10 KPa. The precautions for sieving and catalyst loading are basically the same; be sure to seal the converter manholes in a timely manner.

However, with our sulfur-based sulfuric acid production plant with a capacity of 100,000 tons, we are unable to increase the operating load; the production volume remains low. The pressure at the inlet is around 19 kp, while it’s about 14.5 kp at the outlet. In the past, the plant was already at full capacity when the inlet pressure was around 13 kp. If it’s not a catalyst issue, then what could be the cause? Thank you
1. The weather should be dry; 2.5 or 6-mesh stainless steel sieve ; 3. Prepare protective equipment ; 4. Prepare the tools for digging out the catalyst and installing it ; 5. Explain the safety precautions to the workers.

The answer on page 5 is very good; it should also be noted that the recovery of catalyst dust and the separation of the catalyst are necessary, in order to remove any defective particles and lumps. Catalysts are both valuable items and cause environmental pollution; it is essential to ensure proper recycling and storage.
Use a drum sieve, 10–12 mm. Be careful to dig in layers. The upper 10–20 cm is generally removed and not used. When backfilling, be sure to pay attention to the position of each layer; the ceramic balls in the bottom layer must be at a depth of 2 cm
One more thing: the storage area should be dry and protected from rain; it’s best to have a waterproof barrier on the ground.
