In which step is ethanol removed during methanol distillation? To what extent can it generally be treated?
This post was last edited by GAI20081015 on 2011-9-14 20:12. Part of the ethanol in methanol distillation is processed in the methanol oil in the pre-tower, and most of it is processed in the fusel alcohol fraction of the atmospheric tower.
The ethanol in the distillation is extracted and processed by the fusel oil in the atmospheric tower. The main purpose is to test the boiling range of refined methanol less than 1.5, which is a qualified product.
Reply 2# GAI20081015 If you have time to make a prototype of the top of the pre-tower, you will know. There is almost no ethanol in it.
It is removed in the normal pressure tower because its boiling point is high.
This post was last edited by GAI20081015 on 2011-9-26 23:02. There are many impurities in the pre-column reflux liquid that form an azeotrope with methanol (a small amount of ethanol), including many light components.
The pre-column mainly removes light components. Ethanol has a higher boiling point than methanol and is a heavy component. The pressurized tower and the normal pressure tower mainly extract heavy components. In our design, the side line of the normal pressure tower extracts fusel oil, which has achieved the goal of producing refined methanol with low ethanol content.

I feel like the 5th floor makes sense, but I haven’t taken any samples.
