I don’t know where information on the residence time in the top of tower reflux tank is available; it’s mentioned that it’s 10 to 20 minutes. The volume V of the reflux tank is equal to flow rate times residence time. Does this flow rate refer to the flow coming from the top of the tower, or should it be reduced by the flow that leaves the reflux tank at the top?
Isn’t backflow prevention needed? Moreover, the backflow tank should always have a liquid level. I think the flow rate you mentioned refers to the amount extracted per hour.
When the traffic volume is high, the dwell time is shorter; when it’s low, the time is longer. It can be made larger where there’s space, and smaller where there isn’t – adjust it flexibly
If it is full reflux, then the flow rate at this point is the evaporation and condensation rate at the top of the tower; if it is partial reflux, then this flow rate should be the total amount of evaporation minus the amount of product taken out. I hope this helps.

Under normal conditions, there is partial reflux. I think that in normal operation, the amount of fluid entering the reflux tank should be equal to the amount leaving it; if they are not equal, then something is not right. In other words, the volume of the reflux tank that I calculated is the volume required in abnormal situations. I’m not quite sure what those abnormal conditions entail, nor how to take the residence time into account
It’s just to give the return pump some buffer time!
