What are the symptoms of water hammer in a steam turbine?
(1) Sudden drop of more than 50°C in main steam temperature over 10 minutes; (2) Wet steam emerges or water droplets splash from the main steam valve flange, cylinder joint surface, throttle valve stem, shaft seal, etc. (3) There are water hammer sounds and intense vibrations in the steam pipes. (4) The load decreases, the sound of the unit becomes abnormal, and the vibration of the unit increases. When gas-induced water hammer occurs, the first sign is an increase in vibration levels; the condition of water hammer can be determined based on these vibration patterns. Generally, if vibration is caused by water hammer, it is quite severe, and shutdowns occur almost immediately as a result. If the machine does not stop, it indicates that it is only a minor water hammer effect; in that case, follow the procedures outlined on the first floor, check the steam pressure, restore normal operation promptly, and adjust the throttle valve to reduce vibration
