These past two days I have been designing a gas-to-gas heat exchanger (a vertical heat exchanger with fixed tube sheets), and rupture disks have been installed in the tube side. I have never encountered situations where safety valves or rupture disks are used on heat exchangers before. I wonder if anyone has come across the situation where safety valves or burst discs are installed on heat exchangers?
The heat exchanger I designed was equipped with safety valves, but no burst discs were installed; this should be permissible, though most safety valves or burst discs are installed on the pipelines.
All the heat exchangers in our factory are equipped with safety valves; rupture disks are used only in vacuum systems to prevent overpressure.
When there is a large pressure difference between the tube side and the shell side, a safety valve or rupture disc should be installed on the low-pressure side; if none are available, one should be installed on the low-pressure pipeline.

It is equipped with a burst disc and a safety valve; they can be connected in parallel or in series, and the appropriate configuration can be chosen depending on the situation – just select one that suits the needs! Such a setup is permitted for several reasons: 1. When the pressure difference between the tube side and the shell side is large, it prevents accidents caused by high pressure leaking into the low-pressure side; therefore, safety valves or burst discs are generally installed on the low-pressure side (which is always on the pipeline); 2. Large pressure fluctuations in the tube/shell side (due to power equipment upstream of the system); these fluctuations are prevented from exceeding acceptable limits to protect the equipment. 3. If the medium is non-flammable, non-explosive, non-toxic, and harmless, a rupture disc can be installed ; Conversely, a safety valve must be installed and emissions must be contained.
There must be some; logically, they should be in the pipeline. . . It’s the customer’s request. I’ve done the calculations for the heat exchanger I designed, and it turns out that expansion joints are still needed. After all, the customer is king

A vertical fixed-tube-sheet heat exchanger has just been manufactured, with a design pressure of 0.6 for the liquid side and 1.0 for the gas side; the customer requested that an explosion vent be provided on the upper head.
