White smoke coming from the steam seal tube of the piston oxygen compressor

A 1800-cubic-foot piston-type oxygen compressor began to emit white smoke from the tertiary gas seal tube right after it was started up; the smoke disappeared after a while. It doesn’t cause any problems under normal conditions. If there is a slight leak in the gas seal, smoke is also produced during venting, but it disappears again after a short time. Based on observations, it seems that the smoke is caused by wear of the gas seal. What could be the reason? Let’s discuss this
Place some filter paper for testing next to it to collect any residue; it might be cooking fumes. Also, check the piston rod when the machine is shut down to see if there’s anything there as well. A nitrogen compressor, right? It’ll have to do.
Measure the temperature of the piston rod and check whether it is lubricated; if lubrication is confirmed, the machine should be stopped for treatment.
It’s not a nitrogen compressor; it’s an oxygen compressor. There is no oil in it, and it’s likely caused by worn packing rings
Wear only occurs under variable load conditions; therefore, it’s not just a matter of the packing – it’s possible that the clearance between the crosshead and crank is too large. The water jacket of the first cylinder in my piston engine is leaking; I just took it apart, and I really wonder if it’s some kind of fate at work. . . . . .
