I’m new to boilers and there are many things I don’t understand. Please explain the concepts of starting the boiler and shutting it down, as well as how to carry out these operations.

When the steam demand of the boiler is too low to maintain stable combustion in the circulating fluidized bed boiler, the boiler should be placed in a hot standby state, and the circulating fluidized bed boiler should be shut down. Upon receiving the order to shut down the boiler, record the operating parameters at that moment, such as the speed of the coal feeder, the current of the supply and exhaust fans, the opening degree of the fans’ dampers, the air pressure in the equal-pressure air chamber, and the bed temperature. Increase the coal supply appropriately; once the bed temperature rises, stop feeding coal completely to allow continued combustion in the furnace. When the bed temperature drops by about 1°C to 3°C (depending on the duration of flameout), stop supplying air intake and exhaust air, close the fan dampers and ensure they are airtight (it is best to use soft baffles to seal the dampers, as the dampers built into the fans are generally not airtight enough). When extinguishing the flame, the bed temperature should be kept above 900°C as much as possible to ensure successful re-ignition. If the bed temperature drops too rapidly after the fire is suppressed, it may be due to poorly sealed air valves, and an inspection should be carried out. Generally, the temperature drops more quickly after suppressing the fire for a while than at the start of suppression. When the steam demand of the boiler increases, when it takes too long to start or stop the combustion, or when the bed temperature is too low, combustion initiation procedures should be carried out. After the boiler is shut down, the amount of coal in the coal hopper should be sufficient to meet the requirements for restarting it. An appropriate amount of cold material should be prepared at the furnace door. Upon receiving the order to restart the fire, all components of the boiler should be inspected. (If necessary, usually when the fire has been out for too long and the temperature inside the boiler is too low, the door can be opened to observe the situation inside; a probe can also be used to check whether the material at the bottom is red.) Once everything is normal, the fire can be restarted. First, start the exhaust fan; once the current is normal, open the air supply valves to an appropriate degree and then start the air supply fan. After the current for air supply is normal, increase the opening degrees of both the air supply and exhaust fans to the level required for extinguishing the fire. At this point, the air pressure in the pressure equalization chamber should be the same as that required for extinguishing the fire. Start the coal feeder to feed coal until it reaches the feeding rate before flame suppression (the feeding speed should be the same as that before flame suppression). At this point, close attention must be paid to changes in bed temperature, ensuring that it remains within the specified operating range.
