Once the device’s rupture disc meets the conditions for rupture or detachment, should the entire device continue to operate while the rupture disc is replaced, or should it be stopped? If it’s to be replaced online, how does one go about it?
It’s not necessarily the entire device that has to stop; it’s sufficient for just the relevant equipment to cease operating
If the burst disc ruptures, there is a high possibility of overpressure in the device; continuing to operate without eliminating this risk must be dangerous.
I guess the design institute didn’t require the installation of shut-off valves before and after the blast disc during the design process. That’s exactly what happened in phase two of our company’s project; their design philosophy is really not worth praising. In a situation like yours, you can only stop the parts that can be stopped; just replace them quickly
The rupture disc should be equipped with a valve; otherwise, when it bursts, all the pressure will be released, forcing the machine to stop
If it is operating properly, the burst disc will not explode; if it does explode, the problems that arise often cannot be resolved on the spot. For example, in the case of a heat exchanger’s burst disc, it normally explodes only when there is a rupture in the tube side, and it is not feasible to continue operating under such conditions without shutting down the system. Adding a front valve in such situations merely increases safety risks. For design, the principle that safety comes first is paramount.
Valves are not installed before and after the rupture disc in order to prevent errors in on-site operation; if the valves are closed completely, the rupture disc becomes useless
In my opinion, there should be a shut-off valve in front of the blast disc, right? If the rupture disc is indeed damaged, a leak will definitely occur; if it isn’t shut off, part or all of the equipment will have to be stopped for replacement. But if there is a shut-off valve, (1.) improper operation might prevent the rupture disc from functioning as intended, and (2.) if a rupture does occur, there must be some problem; the issue should be checked before replacing it. It’s still necessary to park, right?)
Our factory’s blast discs are equipped with safety valves; generally, if they fail, they can be replaced after a planned shutdown. .
It is necessary to determine whether the equipment is located at a critical point in the entire process line, and whether it affects the normal operation of the whole line. Additionally, the nature of the material needs to be considered as well as whether the material leaks out; generally, in such cases, a single system is shut down while a backup unit is brought online.
