Yesterday I saw the accompanying documents for the new equipment purchased by our factory (a centrifugal compressor). One item on the list was related to startup sealing – what is the purpose of this?
It should be a sealing element used while driving, the so-called test drive seal.
It is a test seal; a dry gas seal is installed when normal operation begins
It’s used during testing, after all, the conditions are different from normal operation.
There’s a discussion on this topic in the forum; look there for a detailed answer. It’s mainly used during testing, and when driving one switches to another seal, probably to prevent damage to the original seal that ensures proper operation
Among the spare parts available are mechanical seals for driving the machine: 1. Most importantly, mechanical seals are considered vulnerable spare parts, and they are particularly prone to damage when the equipment is started up or shut down. 2. It is required by the technical agreement for your equipment; since it is classified as a spare part for vehicles, the price might be lower. 3. Some technical agreement templates classify consumables into two categories: spare parts for starting up the equipment and spare parts for use over several years.
