Is it possible to switch from working in chemical production for 4 years to working in design or engineering?

Online job postings always require relevant work experience, sigh.
It’s an awkward situation; I was once in the same situation as the original poster, but after stepping outside, I realized that although there are few job opportunities for those who work in refineries, there are still some options available.

Everyone thinks the design is good now; in a few years when the factory’s design tasks are fully booked, everyone will just wait to be sent back to the factory, hehe
